Every ChordPlai feature: from playing with your hands to the vocal harmonizer
From the outside, ChordPlai looks simple: you show your hand to the camera and a chord plays. But lift the lid and you'll find a surprisingly complete music environment underneath. Here's all of it.
🖐️ Air Chord — the main event
Your left-hand sign plays the corresponding degree of the chosen scale (1–7), tilting your wrist makes that chord major or minor, and your right hand drives the effects. The sound sustains as long as you hold the sign, and stops the moment you make a fist. → What is Air Chord? Play chords with your hands and a webcam
🎛️ Four synth tones
- 🎹 Electronic Keyboard — a flexible modern tone whose waveform blends as you rotate your right palm
- 🎼 Grand Piano — a natural piano envelope that decays after each strike; beautiful under arpeggios
- 🌊 Analog — a warm, soft pad generated from a real analog wave sample
- 🕹️ Retro — a slightly dirty, nostalgic sawtooth wave
🥁 Metronome, arpeggios and time signature
You pick a BPM between 40 and 160. With the metronome on, your chords stop being sustained pads and start walking as arpeggios — the notes of the chord play one at a time, in order. Both 4/4 and 6/8 are supported, and the arpeggio follows whichever you choose.
🎚️ Draw your own rhythm
The step sequencer is a simple grid of boxes: click the ones you want across the kick, snare and hihat rows, and the pattern loops. No music theory required — you see it with your eyes and confirm it with your ears.
🎤 Sampler pads — an instrument made of your own voice
You can load your own sounds onto four pads, or record them straight from the microphone. A "hey!", a clap, a knock on the table… Play them by clicking a pad or pressing keys 1–4. Every sound you load gets its own row in the step sequencer, so you can write it into the groove and let it play automatically.
🎙️ Vocal harmonizer — a choir for your voice
Your voice doesn't stay raw when you sing. The vocal going into the recording is filtered, compressed and given reverb, and if you like it's multiplied with 3rd and 5th harmonies that follow the selected scale. So you sing alone and hear a choir in the recording. There are four modes: Natural, Hall, +3rds and Choir (3+5).
🎬 Reels and YouTube video recording
The app records your performance as a directly shareable video. There are vertical (9:16) and horizontal (16:9) formats, and the frame shows the hand-tracking overlay, the name of the chord playing, the drum pattern and the ChordPlai watermark. When the recording ends, you're asked whether you'd like to download it.
🎸 Instrument exercises — the second category
There's a separate section for people who really do play an instrument:
- Chords: Chord practice with a metronome, complete with guitar diagrams and a piano keyboard
- Note Game: A speed game you play by saying note names out loud
- Stave: Note-reading practice in both treble and bass clef
- Chord Ninja: A game that recognizes, through your microphone, the chord you play on a real guitar
- Chord Tetris: Tetris controlled by chords — play the right chord to rotate the block

No installation, no payment. Sign in with your Google account and your progress is saved. Air Chord needs camera access; the exercise modules work fine without a camera.
